Of course, taking your dogs temperature requires a rectal thermometer, which most people don’t have. You can spot many of these other dog labor symptoms without any equipment at all. Certainly, you will spot that they are not eating right away. Likewise, the behavior of sticking close or being extra nervous will be very obvious. From what I’ve read, you need to call the vet if the contractions have been going on for 3-4 hours and there are no puppies yet
